College Students Invent Quantum Dots Screen Optoelectronic Materials To Break Foreign Monopolies

The new type of quantum dot display technology can make the color of the electronic screen more natural and real, but has been monopolized by foreign companies. Nanjing University of Science and Technology students recently invented a new type of photoelectric material, which can be used in the quantum dot display technology to break the monopoly of foreign companies. At present, the display industry is in the period of transformation to the third generation of high-definition flexible display. The new display mainly has two kinds of OLED screen (organic display) and QLED screen (quantum dot display). However, the current OLED and QLED screens are basically monopolized by Samsung and LG in Korea. Even the newly released iPhone8 series and iPhone X of Apple Corp are also subject to the supply of Samsung to the OLED screen.

Compared to the OLED screen, the QLED screen shows a better effect. It is mainly used in large screen display, such as computer, TV and so on. The Q in the QLED screen refers to the Quantum Dots, which is invisible to some naked eyes and extremely small. Because of its excellent photoelectric properties, it can be applied to the LED display as the light-emitting layer material.

At present, the most mature quantum dots are cadmium based quantum dots. However, due to the serious environmental pollution of cadmium, cadmium has been banned by the European Union, and there are still many problems such as complex preparation process.

"Our work is mainly aimed at a new quantum dot, all inorganic perovskite quantum dots, for the problem of the existence of the cadmium based quantum dots. This quantum dot is not only easy to prepare, easy to industrialize and mass production, but also has a better display effect. Quantum dots, which are improved by quantum dots, have broad application prospects due to their excellent photoelectric properties and high compatibility. They can be applied not only to new display areas, but also to special lighting areas, such as medical lighting and plant lighting. At present, the color gamut on the market is only 70% of the NTSC (National TV Standard Committee), and the color will be distorted. Our display color gamut is much higher than that of the mainstream LCD, and the display effect is better. Chen Jiawei said.
