In recent years, the mainland has expanded the capacity of the large-size TFT LCD panel rapidly, with the prediction from the research institutions. In 2019, the mainland's large size TFT LCD capacity could surpass South Korean manufacturers and take the lead.

Following the 2019 large size LCD panel capacity is expected to exceed South Korea, the next generation of China's product development policy goal is to help the panel factory to narrow the gap between the AMOLED panel production capacity and shipment volume and the Korean counterparts.

Digitimes Research predicts that the annual capacity of Chinese small and medium-sized AMOLED panels is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 76%, reaching 11 million 310 thousand square meters in 2022, accounting for 33.4% of the total capacity of the world, next to Korea. This figure has increased significantly compared with the 7.5% in 2017.

Although BOE is not the first Chinese panel maker to develop AMOLED technology, it has been in a favorable position due to its huge investment in recent years. By 2021, the size of the small and medium sized AMOLED panel in the east of Beijing is expected to exceed LG Display and become the second largest supplier in the world.

In October 2017, China's first flexible AMOLED production line - BOE (Beijing East) Chengdu sixth generation flexible AMOLED production line was produced. The production line is mainly used in mobile terminal products and new wearable intelligent equipment and other fields of display products. At present, Beijing has provided a screen for reference and use to more than ten customers including HUAWEI, OPPO, vivo, millet, Zhongxing, Nubian and more than ten customers. The successful mass production of the production line not only opened the new era of flexible display, but also indicated that Chinese enterprises began to lead the development of global AMOLED industry in the era of new display.

In December 2017, Universal Display (UDC) signed a long-term OLED agreement with the BOE (Beijing Oriental Technology Group). According to the agreement, UDC will supply phosphorescent OLED materials to the East. It is understood that the current phosphor OLED luminescent material market is dominated by UniversalDisplay (UDC), and UDC has a basic patent for phosphor OLED luminescent materials. All major OLED manufacturers, including Samsung and LGD, are using UDC materials to achieve higher display efficiency.

At present, the East is still actively improving production capacity, and all its new expansion projects can be supported by local governments. In 2022, the capacity of small AMOLED panels will reach 20% of global capacity, making it the main supplier of international smart phone manufacturers.
